To those of you who have been exploring Lincoln’s world with me, thank you for your patience. You may have noticed that my Tuesday and Thursday posts suddenly stopped for a couple of weeks. I wanted to let you know why. My father had a catastrophic fall and was in hospice, and shortly afterward he passed away.
The days that followed were filled with family, planning his funeral, looking through old photographs, sharing stories, and saying goodbye to someone who had been an important part of my life for many years. Like many families who have experienced a loss, everything else was set aside for awhile–including my writing and this blog.
As difficult as these past weeks have been, they have also reminded me why Li love history. Every family has stories worth preserving. Every generation leaves behind memories, photographs, letters, and traditions that shape the people who come after them. Whether I am researching my own family, writing about Abraham Lincoln, or telling the story of Elijah Lovejoy, I am reminded that history is ultimately about people.
Now it is time to return to Lincoln’s world. I have resumed work on Lincoln Seeks Justice for Eliajh Lovejoy, and I’m looking forward to sharing more of the fascinating people, questions, and discoveries that have inspired this novel. Over the coming weeks we’ll continue exploring the mysteries, friendships, and historical events that shaped the young Abrahm Licnoln and the world in which he lived.
Thank you for your patience, your encouragement and for continuing to explore Lincoln’s world with me.
I’m glad to be back.
Current projects:
- My book: resuming revisions of Lincoln Seeks Justice for Elijah Lovejoy.
- Edward Bryant: continuing to preserve and prepare his stories for future readers.
Sometimes history reminds us that every life leaves a story worth remembering.
I hope you’ll continue this journey with me.
