Changing Hats

The last couple of days I didn’t write. As writers we need to wear multiple hats. We need to write, edit, publish and even market our own work. We need to get it out there where people can find it and read it. The photo above is the way Lincoln would’ve looked in the time period I’m writing about. In fact, this photo was taken directly after the trial I’m writing about. He was 28 years old. You can read about this photo in my upcoming book that should be out later this fall. This weekend I was learning some social media skills including how to add images to my blog. Writing a blog is one way we communicate with the people who might like to read our books.

Lincoln is mostly known for wearing a stove top hat. It could’ve been made from either silk or beaver. Beaver was very popular at the time. He also wore many other types of hats. He was a lawyer, son, father, husband, friend, politician and entertainer. Lincoln was shy and sometimes withdrawn, but he loved to entertain. As a youngster he wrestled and raced. As he grew up, he gave speeches and told stories. He also wrote letters, articles, speeches, legislation.

It isn’t enough just to write a good story or a good book. You have to figure out how to get your great story into the readers hands. That’s what I’ve been doing. So, you may see more images here showing you as well as telling you what I’m working on.

On the personal front, I finished painting the garage door and am cleaning up the house for the holidays and making space to put up my decorations. And, I’m working my day job. Today is the first day of another work week.
