Writing is Bliss

My writing is coming along well and adds a rewarding bliss to my life. Nothing feels better than meeting your goal and seeing your stories unfold. I still have some computer skills I would like to master that would enhance how I present my writing to others. But that, too, is coming along.

I have left my heroes in Alton investigating a crime, murder. Two men have died, but one gets all the attention. This murder is a true event that changed our nation at the time yet is little spoken of or known. When I write historical fiction, I like to pick times or events that are less written about so that readers can discover something new. Lincoln of course has been written about plenty of times, and though he is the lead detective the story is mainly about the events that take place and how he and the nation reacted to them.

I once learned that all fiction is about the human condition. Each of us explores it in a different way. We enjoy learning from each other and seeing the world through others’ eyes thus illuminating the world in a way we had not thought of. For me, when I read, I always fall in love with the characters. I want to see them succeed, but first they must usually fail. The failure becomes the drama, the thing to overcome. That is where the characters are now.

See you next week!
