Fall Chores Go On

I rewrote the first two chapters of the book and ran them by my writers’ group. The rewrite was easy. I find myself looking forward to doing more of it. This is always good. The group really enjoyed hearing it. I think it will go much faster than the rough draft.

When I was young rewriting was tough. I often didn’t know when enough was enough. It was difficult to call it done and release it and move on to another project. I don’t have that problem now. My rough draft is much cleaner that it was when I was young. I think a lot of new writers have that problem.

I took 3 paragraphs out of chapter one and plan on putting that information into the story much later and I inserted other information in the form of dialogue into chapter one. I didn’t have much to add to chapter two but decided to break it into two separate chapters. It was too long, and I always knew this. Chapter two was always one long day in the story and that made it difficult to separate for me, but I found a natural breaking point where the story perspective changes. None of that may make any sense or be interesting.

I still have a lot of fall yard work to do. My friend and her family have started emptying the pond into kid pools on the back patio. I need to buy more equipment for the pond job. I’m going to my brother’s house, and he will show me how his pump works. I need to learn pond structure and maintenance quickly. So that project and many more outside are continuing.
