Surprise, surprise, I’m back again. I’m very happy to say that I completed the rough draft of my Lincoln mystery novel. More to come as I start the rewrite. I read the final chapter at Scribes, and they felt it worked as a conclusion. The final chapter is very important as it must have emotional impact and tie up all lose ends. In this case, the final chapter is like an epilogue. It takes place 26 years in the future from the end of the previous chapter.
To prepare for the rewrite, I will be going back to my outlines for the book. As previously stated, I already went back during the writing process and edited the outline with items that should have gone in sooner. Some things you don’t discover about the plot until you have actually finished the first draft. Those things must now be corrected and polished. My group made various suggestions along the way, and I will consider making those changes. Still, all in all, I expect the rewrite to go much faster than the rough draft.
I will also be working on a marketing plan, cover, and other publishing essentials for the book. This book will actually be the second in my Lincoln series. It is considerably longer than the first. The first book was written as a novella for the mystery collection, Murder They Wrote, available on Amazon. This was edited by my friend Judi Lynn. I will be publishing it again under the Wormhole imprint.
I will be looking ahead to the next book in the series, which will involve more reading about Lincoln to decide on which case might appear to me more and how it might be shaped into an exciting mystery.
More to come. I’m hoping to blog regularly now. Talk with you soon.
