A Good Afternoon at Writers Group

Today’s writers’ group was larger than usual–eight of us gathered, which increased the energy in the room. It lifted everyone’s spirits after the long winter. I read my work and received some good comments to help me in my revision. So I’m feeling energized to get a lot more done.

Several members, including myself brough copies of Larry’s newly published book Chicken Stories: What the Hens are Doing When Everyone is Away, which was a milestone definitely worth celebrating. Seeing a finished book in someone’s hands is a remind that the long middled of drafting and revising does eventually resolve into something tangible.

Afterward several of us went to our favorite hangout The Tower and continued talking–this time about book promotion and what it means to bring work into the world. Promotion can feel like a separate discipline from writing, but perhaps it’s simply the final stage of stewardship.

At any rate, it was a good meeting. Encouraging. Serious without being heavy.

Current projects:

  • My book: continuing revision following today’s suggestions
  • Edward Bryant: ongoing editorial selection ad preparation

Some days are about solitary refinement. Others remind you that writing also lives in community.

Thanks for read and walking alongside me.
